Making a Plaster Mould

Another great tutorial from Art Mind.
This time, you can learn how to carve plaster to make your own mould, which will allow you to make an originally designed pendant (or whatever you feel like making) out of clay (kiln-fired or polymer clay).

Shrink Plastic Buttons

Branding Iron

I love this idea: you make a shape out of stainless steel wire, heat it up and 'brand' a piece of meat with it. It adds a special touch, and for valentine's day dinner, you could use a heart shape...awww!
Go here for the how-to.

Stamping Polymer Clay

These cute labels have been made by using letter stamps on polymer clay, before adding acrylic paint. Find the instructions over at Art Mind.

Street Art

I love street art, whether it's graffiti (the creative type, NOT tags!), paper shapes, 3D sculptures, or pavement illustrations.
And a particularly ingenious form of street art is showcased on the Little People website, where little figures in different poses and situations are left in random places in the city. I love this art, it's like a whole different world you could walk right past and miss completely. I would love to do this kind of thing, although how you make such intricate little models I do not know!
For some, erm, interesting street art which involves making poo look prettier (!), you can have a look at the hilarious, but a bit gross, photos here.

Wooden Wax Seal

I've always loved calligraphy and handwritten letters (SO much better than an e-mail!), and a wax seal just adds a bit of striking luxury to it, so now is your chance to design and make your very own monogrammed wax seal!
I am definitely doing this one, wax seals are so beautiful.

Watermelon 'Sherbet' Slice

Heck, I don't even care whether this tastes good, it is the most fresh and glorious looking pie slice I have ever seen - It's absolutely genious!
I have also learned something today, because if you look at the recipe here, you'll see that it is made of sherbet. This will make complete sense to any American readers (hi here!), but to us British, sherbet is actually a sweet sugary powder that rots teeth. Hence my utter confusion. But, thanks to my friend Google, I found that the American sherbet is a fruity frozen puree, sort of like British sorbet but it melts slower:
"Sorbet can be made into sherbert if a beaten egg white and lowfat milk is added to the mixture after it is partially frozen."
Hmmm, well it seems us Brits have a choice of what to use, including making our own from sorbet, egg and milk, or experimenting with ice-cream, sorbet or frozen yoghurt. Personally, I think I'd try frozen yoghurt :-)
I hope you all learned something today!

Ruffle Pillow

Pretty and luxurious decoration created by adding felt ruffles to pillows - to give them that 'wow' factor.

Sugar Crystals

Sugar crystals, or 'rock candy' as it's known in America, is a very interesting (and tasty) scientific experiment, plus it's very fun to watch the crystals grow.
I always used to get excited at restaurants when my parents got these sugar crystal sticks to stir their coffee/tea with!
To find out how they're made, go here.

Hidden Door Bookcase

When I went on a tourist's tour of Edinburgh, the famous Jekyll and Hyde pub was pointed out, and the tour guide told us that the toilets are hidden behind a bookcase - how cool!
Now, this type of quirky thing is definitely up my street, so naturally I had a look for a tutorial on the internet, and found a guide here and here. For more inspiration, have a look here too.
This project has lots of scope for imagination and ingenuity - I personally would have to have the bookcase door opening by pulling on a funny-titled book, and perhaps to make it easier to make, I would put castors on the bottom of the bookcase and diguise them somehow. Either way, in my dream world, this bookcase would lead to a library :-)

Spring Table Centrepiece

I'm a little late for Spring perhas, but I don't see why this can't be an awesome table centrepiece all year round!
The tutorial is here, and I especially like the technique for making the yarn bird's nest.

Thanks Guys!

This is just a quick note to say I found out yesterday that I'm on the first page of Google for the search 'Craft Tutorials', and so I'm absolutely delighted with that - a year well spent!
So I just want to thank all my readers and visitors, commenters and tutorials writers because you made me a v.happy blogger :-)
And also, a special thanks to my very first regular visitor from Grande Prairie who kept me going when they were the only reader! Thank-you!
I feel like I'm accepting an Oscar.

Cooling Neck Ties

This is a great idea for the Summer months - you make a simple neck tie and then insert some water absorbing crystals (what a great product!) to keep you cool!
Of course, if you live in the UK like moi, you may be interested to learn that Summer is an event which is supposed to occur during the months of June, July and August, and consists of something called 'sunshine'. No, I didn't see any evidence of that in England either ;-)

Felted Pebbles

You've probably seen many felted pebbles in the houses of crafty types, and now you can make them too with this fab tutorial. You can make them in all different colours - even grey and marbled to look like real pebbles - but my favourite arrangement is rainbow coloured pebbles in a wooden bowl :-)
