Funky idea to make ping pong fairy lights. The ping pong balls diffuse the lights and make them glow instead - This would be amazing at Christmas!
I would suggest using LED Xmas lights and make sure you test them to make sure they don't overheat, but I'm pretty sure it won't be a problem.
